Reno, Nevada

Reno is a city in Washoe county, in northwestern Nevada. The city itself is on the southern tip of the county. Situated 4,505 ft (1,373 m) above sea level, it covers 69.3 sq mi (179.6 sq km) and has a population of 225,000 people (2011 estimate), making it the most populous city in Nevada outside the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Like Las Vegas, Reno also has its share of casinos. It bills itself as the Biggest Little City in the World.

While the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, modern Reno dates back to the mid 19th century, when pioneers settled in the Truckee Meadows, a valley of the Truckee River. The site was developed by one Myron C. Lake, who became known as the founder of Reno. As the city grew, it was selected to be the county seat of Washoe County, replacing Washoe City in 1871.

In nthe 1930s, liberal divorce laws in Reno caused those who want to seek a divorce to go to Reno. Even going to Reno became another say of saying that one is seeking a divorce.

Visiting Reno

Interstate 80 connects Reno with the rest of the country, and is the main highway to reach Reno from California.
