Wall Street is a famous street in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It runs from Broadway to South Street on the East River, passing the Financial District. The name Wall Street has become the metonym for the influential financial establishment in the US. A "Wall Street company" would be one dealing with financial services, though its headquarters might no longer be physically located on Wall Street.
It is believed that Wall Street was named after the Walloons, a group of French-speaking Dutch people who help establish New Amsterdam back in the 1630s. However, to the English speaking, the name dates back to the 1653 palisades erected as defence against attacks by Indian tribes.
