Isaacs-Hendricks House is believed to be the oldest house in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. It is located at 77 Bedford Street, at the junction with Commerce Street, just a short distance from 75½ Bedford Street which I have also described.

The Isaacs-Hendricks House dates back to 1799. It is a clapboard farmhouse in the Federal style. It was named after two persons, John Isaacs and Harmon Hendricks. John Isaacs was the person who bought the land for the house in 1794, for $295, while Harmon Hendricks was the copper dealer who supplied copper to Robert Fulton, the American engineer and inventor.

Updates

2 May, 2013: It was reported in curbed.com that the Isaacs Hendricks House has been put up for sale for $6.9 million. The last known owner, who bought it in 1989, is said to be the French socialite Jacqueline Thion de la Chaume, who was also the third ex-wife of the late actor Yul Brynner.

How to reach the Isaacs-Hendricks House

Take the 1 train to Christopher Street/Sheridan Square subway station. Then walk south along 7th Avenue South until you reach the intersection with Bedford Street. Turn right, walk north along Bedford Street and you will come upon 77 Bedford Street right after 75½ Bedford Street on your left.
