Gracie Mansion, which is regarded as the most handsome Federal house left in New York, was built by a wealthy merchant named Archibald Gracie. It was acquired by the city of New York in 1887, and was the first home of the Museum of the City of New York. It became the mayor's official residence in 1942. However, when Fiorello LaGuardia moved into it, preferring the mansion of the 75-room palace on Riverside Drive, he still found it too fancy.

How to reach Gracie Mansion

Gracie Mansion is located on Carl Schurz Park, along East End Avenue, across from 88th Street.

Take the 4, 5 or 6 train to the 86th Street Station. Walk east along 86th Street until you reach East End Avenue. Turn left, walk north along East End Avenue until the junction with 88th Street. Cross East End Avenue to Carl Schurz Park, and you will see Gracie Mansion within the park.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
