The
Church of the Ascension is an Episcopal Church of the Diocese of New York. It is located along Fifth Avenue, with its address on W 11th Street.
The Church of the Ascension was built in the English Gothic Revival style in 1841. The architect was Richard Upjohn, who also designed the
Trinity Church. The altar relief was executed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Above it is a mural entitled
The Ascension by John La Farge, who also designed the stained glass.

President John Tyler married Julia Gardiner at the Church of the Ascension in 1844. Some of the famous people of New York who are parishioners here include August Belmont and William B Astor of
Waldorf-Astoria New York fame.

How to reach the Church of the Ascension
Take the L, N, Q, R or W train to the Union Square/14th Street subway station. Walk west along E 14th Street until intersection with Fifth Avenue, then turn left and walk south along Fifth Avenue until you reach the intersection with W 11th Street. Look out for the Church of the Ascension which is on the right side of the road at the corner with W10th Street.
