New Braunfels experiences a humid subtropical climate. July and August are the months with the hottest weather, with average high temperature touching 95°F (35°C). January is the coldest month, when the average low temperature drops to 49°F (9°C). May is the wettest month in New Braunfels, when it receives 5.01 in (127.3 mm) of precipitation.

As with Fredericksburg, New Braunfels was founded by German immigrants headed by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, who was establishing the town on behalf of the Mainzer Adelsverein (Mainz Nobility Union). He named it after his hometown, Solms-Braunfels in Hesse, Germany. The town was originally called Neu-Braunfels and most of its early inhabitants were German immigrants.

With no experience in running a business or in maintaining finances, Prince Solms soon had the finances of the colony in disarray. Prince Carls asked that he been relieved of the responsibility. His place was taken over by Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach, who took on the name John O. Meusebach to assimilate himself in America. The settlers were however instigated to rebel against him. Nonetheless Meusebach was instrumental in putting the community's finances in order, and to get Neu-Braunsfels and Fredericksburg established.

By 1850, New Braunsfels was already the fourth largest town in Texas, albeit with a population of only 1,723 people. Today the city continues to celebrate its German heritage, holding an annual Wurstfest or "German sausage Festival" every November.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
