Napa Valley is a famous wine-growing region in California, USA. It is located in Napa County, to the north of the San Francisco Bay Area. The name Napa is said to be a Native American word that has been variously translated.
Today Napa Valley is one of the top wine-growing regions of the world, on par with the top-level wine regions of France, Italy and Spain. This came about as recently as the 1960s. Before that, Napa County produced a variety of crops. Being warmer in summer, Napa Valley favors varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon.
