Fayetteville is a city in south-central North Carolina. The county seat of Cumberland County, it covers 60 sq mi (155.3 sq km) and has a population of 201,000 people (2011 estimate). Fayetteville is the sixth largest municipality in North Carolina.

Fayetteville is located on Cape Fear River, on the western part of the Coastal Plain region. Warmest month here is July, with average high temperature of 91°F (32.78°C) while coldest month is January, with average low temperature of 32.7°F (0.39°C). July is the wettest month, receiving approximately 5.7 in n(144.8 mm) of rain.

The Fayetteville area was originally inhabited by the Siouan language family of Native Americans. The Lumbee tribe still lives in this area, numbering some 50,000 people. The city itself was formed following the American Revolutionary War, created by merging two villages in the area, and named in honor of General La Fayette.

Fayetteville was just a small town for much of the 19th century. It only began to grow rapidly after the Second World War.

    Museum that opened in 2000 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first US Army parachute jump.

  2. Cape Fear Botanical Garden
    Nonprofit botanical garden established in 1989.

  3. Cross Creek Mall
    Regional shopping mall with over 100 stores and 1 million sq ft of retail space.

  4. Cumberland County Crown Coliseum
    Multi-purpose arena with a capacity of 8,500 spectators.

  5. Evans Metropolitan AME Zion Church
    Historic church built in 1893 and today listed in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

  6. Fort Bragg
    US Army installation named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg. It covers 251 sq mi over four counties.

  7. Hay Street United Methodist Church
    First Methodist Church in Fayetteville, built in 1835 and today listed in the NRHP.

  8. Heritage Square
    Site with a number of buildings in the NRHP.

  9. Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex
    Museum documenting the history and culture of the southern part of North Carolina. It includes the 1897 Poe House and Arsenal Park.
