Canton is a city in northeastern Ohio. The county seat of Stark County, it covers 20.6 sq mi (53.3 sq km) and has a population of 73,000 people (2011 estimate).
Canton was first settled in 1805. It was incorporated as a village in 1822 and received its city status in 1838. The city was named after Canton (Guangzhou), China by Bezaleel Wells, a surveyor, as a memorial to John O'Donnell, who was the first person to import good from Guangzhou to Baltimore.
