Laguna Verde, which means "Green Lagoon", is a high-altitude salt lake in the southwest of the Altiplato of Bolivia, a high plateau in the Andean region. It is near the Chilean border at the foot of stratovolcano Licancabur.
Located at a height of 4,300m (14,000 ft) above sea level, the barren landscape around Laguna Verde provides spectacular scenery. The surface is as still as a sheet of glass, and the water is so clear, the bottom of the lake is clearly visible. The surrounding mountains are reflected on the surface, which is hardly broken by a single ripple. The terrain is rugged, barren and solitary.
The colour of the water of Laguna Verde is caused by sediments containing copper minerals. There are hot springs in the vicinity of Laguna Verde as well.
Laguna Verde provides spectacular sceneries that entice a small but steady stream of well-heeled travelers.

Visiting Laguna Verde
Laguna Verde is located in the Bolivian Altiplano, a high plateau of the Andes that is 3,500 meters above sea level. There are 4WD tours to this area for tourists who are prepared to rough it out.
Bring along camping gear, lots of water, sunglasses and sunblock for the journey. Despite the altitude, the sun can be very intense at this thin atmosphere.
