Iguaçu Falls, the largest and arguably most impressive waterfall in the world. Iguazu Falls extends for some 2700 meters. Iguaçu National Park was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during theWhen submitting this site for inscription, the delegation representing Brazil indicated its wish to list Iguaçu National Park independently, without any link to the concept of transfrontier site. This is because Brazilian legislation did not allow for any commitment regarding joint management of national parks. The World Heritage Committee welcomed the willingness of Brazil to cooperate with Argentina in the conservation and preservation of Iguaçu National Park alongside Iguazu National Park across the border.
Visiting Iguaçu National Park
Your base for visiting this World Heritage Site is Rio de Janeiro. From there, you can make the arrangement, either on your own or through a travel agency, to go to Iguaçu National Park. The Foz do Iguaçu International Airport is the airport on the Brazilian side serving the national park. It has direct flights from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and other regional cities.
