Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley is a natural property that was recognised by as a World Heritage Site in 2011. It covers a landscape of interlocking shallow lakes, among them Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru and Laka Elementaita, totalling some 32,034 hectares. The Lake System of Kenya is rich in biodiversity. It is home to 13 globally threatened species of birds. It also has one of the highest diversity of bird life in the world.
The Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley is the most important site for lesser flamingos anywhere in the world. Other bigger wildlife visiting the lakes include lions, greater kudu, cheetah, wild dogs and rhinoceros.
Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 35th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, France, 19-29 June, 2011.
