Ko Hae, Phuket (11 July, 2004)
Ko Hae, also called
Coral island, is a small island situated 9 km southeast of Phuket. It stretches 3 km from east to west but is only 800 metres from north to south.
Apart from a fisherman's village, much of Ko Hae is clad in jungle, and has not changed much for decades. Nevertheless, Ko Hae is a popular day trip for visitors to Phuket, because of its lovely coral reef. For that reason, Ko Hae is often called Coral Island. Unfortunately, most of the reef near the shore is now dead.
Ko Hae has two stretches of long, white sandy beaches which are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Among the tourist activities available at Ko Hae is the Underwater Seawalker, a sort of helmet that allows visitors to walk underwater.
