Here I am with the Char Koay Teow of Tamarind Brasserie (13 January 2016)
Today being a replacement public holiday, my wife and I had our lunch at Parkroyal Penang. I ordered char koay teow (RM35 nett) while my wife ordered the chicken briyani rice (RM30 nett). This is the second plate of char koay teow that I am having today (earlier this morning, I had the char koay teow at Wahong Cafe in Kampung Jawa Bayan Baru, which was a really small portion).
What came out was a world of difference from the char koay teow at Wahong Cafe. Instead of a plate, it came in its own wok! The portion is huge (I am not complaining here, considering I am paying RM35 for it). It has four huge prawns.
The chicken briyani rice that my wife ordered came with pappadam, a piece of tandoori chicken, the briyani rice, chutney and a bowl of curry. My wife doesn't quite like the briyani rice. She said that the pappadam is too salty while the smell of the spices too strong on the rice. Also, the chicken was too dry. However, between the briyani and the char koay teow, I felt I preferred the briyani. The char koay teow was a bit too much for me. After eating it a bit, I felt jelak. I would rather have the briyani, as the portion is more manageable. I do agree that the pappadam was too salty.
