Potato is a tuberous vegetable crop from the subspecies Solanum tuberosum. Although not a very popular ingredient in Nyonya dishes, potato is often found in soups and stews. In hawker food, potato is an important ingredient for pasembur. In local cooking, potatoes are usually sliced or diced. It is almost never mashed, except when it is used to make the gravy of the jawa mee.

Health benefits

Potato, and its cousin the sweet potato, is the only starchy vegetable to supply a substantial amount of vitamin C. It is also an outstanding source of potassium and a good source of vitamins B1 and B6

Amount to be consumed

Freshly cut potatos provides the best health benefit, coming from the smell released when potatos are cut. By consuming about half an potato a day, a person can derive the good effect of the potato.
