Alessandria is the provincial capital of the eponymous province in Piedmont, Italy. It covers 204 sq km (79 sq mi) and hasd a population of 94,000 people (2012 estimate). The nearest major city is regional capital Turin, located approximately 90 km to the northwest.

Alessandria was founded in the 12th century by the Lombards. In 1899, it became the first provincial capital to be governed by a Socialist when clockmaker Paolo Sacco was elected mayor. The town experiences a humid subtropical climate with extremities in winter and summer temperatures.

Alessandria is located close to the interchange of two motorways, the A26 and the A21. If coming from Turin, take the A21.
