Cycling in Penang is a recreational activity that is currently being promoted by the state. In all honestly, I find that the streets in George Town are not suitable for cycling, except during the weekends, when the number of cars are lower. At the moment, cyclists are expected to take to the streets, which is quite dangerous.

The places where you can comfortably and safely cycle are few. Among these includes the Youth Park and the leafy neighbourhoods such as Jesselton Heights. You can cycle within the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site during weekends, but not during the work day.
