Charing Cross Road is a road in Central London. It starts at the intersection with
Oxford Road, across from
Tottenham Court Road, and goes southwards to end at
St Martin-in-the-Fields Church. The road was named after the Charing Cross railway station, which in turn was named after Charing Cross.
Charing Cross Road is a popular place to go for second hand books and antiquarian shops. Most of these shops are located on the ground floor of low-cost housing known as housing associations. There are also regular bookstores such as Foyles and Borders, which are located almost opposite each other.
How to reach Charing Cross Road
Take the
Central Line or
Northern Line to the
Tottenham Court Road Tube Station, or the
Piccadilly Line or Northern Line to the
Leicester Square Tube Station.
