One of the biggest irritations in writing this website, and doing all the first-hand research, is that unscrupulous editors of Wikipedia often copy what I have written and add it to Wikipedia, in the exact words that I have used. They simply take my content and use it as their own without my knowledge.

Then, later on, some wise guy notice the similarity between the Wikipedia article and my article, and immediately assumes that I have copied from Wikipedia, and not the other way around. This self-appointed web policeman then shoots a rude, self-righteous email to me, lecturing me for copying Wikipedia!

It takes a lot of effort righting the wrong, putting the web policeman in his place, and getting Wikipedia to remove their plagiarism. While Wikipedia has been a boon to humanity, for us, who do first-hand research, it is also a curse.

For that reason, I write this article, and am linking it to all pages of my website, as a reminder to all would-be Wikipedia plagiarists that it is copyright infringement to copy what people have written and house it on a Wikipedia article. If you want to reference what I have written, yes, you may do that, but you should also add a reference linking back to the source, which is my article, in your own words, not in the choice of words I have used. Similarly, I often reference Wikipedia, and put links directly to Wikipedia articles, giving credit where it is due. Please understand that I took great pains to write my article, but once the same content is added to Wikipedia, Google will index the Wikipedia page over mine. Do not be party to such plagiarism.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
