Taking the Bus from Penang Airport is the cheapest and most convenient way to start your vacation in Penang, especially if you are a budget traveller. As I write this (July 2011), the Penang International Airport is presently undergoing an expansion. The Arrival Hall is moved to the ground floor.

After you have exited the arrival hall, you will be able to see the Taxi Stand right across the road, while the Bus Station to your left. There will usually be a bus or two parked there. The buses in Penang are managed by Rapid Penang. The buses are clean and air-conditioned.

There are two bus routes operating out of the Penang Airport. They are Rapid Penang 102 (Airport to Penang Hospital) and Rapid Penang 306 (Airport to Teluk Bahang). Due to low traffic on these two routes, there's only one bus every 45 minutes on each route.

As you board the bus of your choice, inform the driver where you are heading, and he will issue you the ticket. Drop the fare in the box. Make sure you bring small change, as the driver is not able to provide change.

When you are ready to alight from the bus, press the bell. It is the red button with the word "STOP" available at regular intervals in the bus.
