Seri Tanjung Pinang Promenade is a waterfront promenade along the waterfront in Tanjung Tokong. This 500-meter-long tree-lined pathway borders the Seri Tanjung Pinang luxury development emerging on the northeast coast of Penang Island. From the promenade, one can enjoy an uninterrupted panorama of George Town, from Gurney Drive all the way to the very tip of the Esplanade. The view of a whole row of skyscrapers reflected against the incoming tide is indeed breathtaking.
Fast taking shape to the north of the promenade is Seri Tanjung Pinang's Waterside, a marina and retail development that will host, among others, a hypermarket, a mall with department store, restaurants and entertainment outlets. Future development includes 740 acres of reclaimed land to form a string of artificial islands, introducing a waterborne lifestyle to Penang.
Getting there
The most convenient way to reach Seri Tanjung Pinang Promenade is by car. Rapid Penang Buses that pass through Tanjong Tokong Road includes 101, 103, and U104. Check the Rapid Penang Bus Route for details. The nearest bus stop is along the Tanjung Tokong main road in front of Island Plaza, about one kilometer away. At the Fettes Park junction, take Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang beside Island Plaza. Go along the road until you reach the turning on the right to Jalan Bayu. Take Jalan Bayu and look for any of the right turnings. This takes you to the cul-de-sac where you can park your car and walk towards Seri Tanjung Pinang Promenade.
What to see and do there
Tanjung Seri Pinang Promenade is a great place to enjoy the scenery. From here, you can get a full view of the skyscrapers from Gurney Drive all the way till the Esplanade. On a clear day, Bukit Mertajam is visible too. When I visited the promenade, it was still brand new, with workers putting the finishing touches to the railings. The grass has not fully grown either.

Finding Budget Accommodation in Penang
If you're coming to Penang on a budget, you'd be pleased to know that there's quite a number of places in George Town as well as in Batu Ferringhi that offers good clean accommodation without costing you an arm and a let. If I am allowed to be biased, I would recommend Hotel Mingood, which happens to belong to a friend of mine. If it is occupied, there are plenty of other places that cost less than US$12.00 per night. Here are some suggestions:
Hutton Lodge, from US$8.25
Baba Guesthouse, from US$7.57
E.T. Budget Guesthouse, from US$6.05
YMCA Penang, from US$6.53
Ali's Ferringhi Guest House, from US$9.63
Despite the best intentions to provide you information that is as accurate as possible, do be aware that prices may have changed and exchange rates fluctuated since I wrote this. So please personally and carefully screen through the available accommodation before making your booking, to avoid any disappointments.
