Prepositions in Penang Hokkien

Prepositions are words used to express the location of an item or person. In Penang Hokkien, there is in fact only one true preposition, which is tee1, meaning "at". To this preposition, adverbs are added to form a full meaning.

tee eh3teh1: located below
tee lai3bin3: located inside
tee gua3bin3: located outside
tee tong3er'ng1: located in the middle

Lu-eh bor1lah4 tee talok?: Where's your ball?
Ie tee chit-peng.: It's here.
Hamik mee3-knia3 tee kau3-ee1-kah3?: What's at the foot of the chair?
Wah-eh ea2 tee kau-ee-kah.: My shoe is at the foot of the chair.
Ie tua tee talok? Where is he?
Ie tua tee pang3keng3-eh lai-bin.: He's inside the room (lit. he is located at room's inside).
