The Penang Goldsmith Association or Penang Ta Kam Hong at Lebuh Muntri, Penang, is the biggest Chinese goldsmith association in Malaysia. Founded in 1832, it is also the oldest. Its members are mostly goldsmiths of Cantonese descent who came from Guangdong Province in southern China from the earth 19th century right to the early 20th century. Within its premises is the guild temple, Voo Cheng Koo Mew, built in 1903 to worship Wu Ching, the patron deity of goldsmiths.
Getting there
From the Weld Quay Bus Terminal, take Rapid Penang Nos. 10 and 103 and disembark in front of Cititel. From Penang Road, enter Lebuh Muntri, pass Lebuh Leith, pass the Hainan Temple on your right. The Goldsmith Association is also on your right, a little farther down the road.
Nearby Sights
Hainan Temple: From the Goldsmith Association, turn left, walk a short distance, and the Penang Goldsmith Association is on your left along Lebuh Muntri.
Kuan Yin Teng: From the Penang Goldsmith Association, turn right, walk down Lebuh Muntri. Pass junction with Love Lane, enter Lorong Stewart, go to the end, follow the lane as it make a right turn followed by a left turn. Kuan Yin Teng is on your left.
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion: From the Penang Goldsmith Association, turn left, walk up Lebuh Muntri. At Lebuh Leith junction, turn right and walk to the end. Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is on the left near junction of Lebuh Farquhar.
