Midlands One Stop
Midlands One Stop is a shopping centre in Pulau Tikus, Penang. When it opened for business in the mid 1990's, it was one of the more upmarket malls in Penang. Its initial anchor tenant was Looking Good Departmental Store and Supermarket. In addition, other major tenants included Popular Bookshop, Watson, KFC, McDonald's, Kenny Roger's and Dave's Deli.
When the Asian financial crisis hit in the late 1997, it affected business throughout Malaysia, resulting in the closure of Looking Good. Since then, Midlands One Stop has been unable to replace it with another anchor tenant of similar calibre. Also it faces stiff competition from the newer and bigger Gurney Plaza which opened in November 2001 which further drew the crowd away, resulting in the closure of even more outlets.
Midlands One Stop now caters to the lower end of the market, with shops offering lower priced items which also reflects the deteriorated rental rates there. Nonetheless occupancy remains low.
Getting to Midlands One Stop
Midlands One Stop is located on Jalan Burma opposite the Adventist Hospital. You can take Rapid Penang Bus U101, U104 and T304 to reach it. Bus stop is in short distance near the shopping centre.
