Mee Goreng

What is Mee Goreng

Mee Goreng is a spicy fried noodle dish that is usually sold by Indian Muslims, often called mamak. Most stalls selling mee goreng often sell mee rebus and pasembur as well. The ingredients of all three dishes are practically the same, only the style of cooking differ, with pasembur served without noodles, often replaced by shredded cucumber and turnip.

Mee Goreng is a popular Penang hawker food that can be taken for breakfast, lunch and to a lesser extend, dinner. The noodle used is yellow egg noodles (mee) while the ingredients include potatoes, taukua (beancurd), bean sprout, prawn fritters, niau-choo chi (flour-batter fritters), egg, and squid.

Some of the most famous Mee Goreng Stalls in Penang have been handed down several generations. Famous mee goreng stalls include the one at Seng Lee Cafe of Bangkok Lane, the CRC Mee Goreng, and the Sultan Mee Goreng now operating at New World Park.
