Kedai Kopi Swee Kong (GPS: 5.43047, 100.31261) is one of the two coffee shops at the junction of Burmah Road with Moulmein Close. As you enter Moulmein Close, it is located on the right side. Being one of the coffee shops in close proximity to the Pulau Tikus Market, Kedai Kopi Swee Kong is heavily patronised, especially by the morning and lunch crowds. The food stalls at Kedai Kopi Swee Kong spill over to the roadside along Moulmein Close, giving visitors a lot of food to choose from.

My Visits to Kedai Kopi Swee Kong

On this visit, I ordered the Hokkien Mee (RM4.00) while my wife the Pan Mee (RM4.80). I like that the gravy for the Hokkien Mee is very thick, although the amount of gravy provided is quite little, and when you lift your noodle to mix it, it seems that the gravy is right at the bottom of the bowl. Nevertheless, it has a generous amount of prawns and I do enjoy it.

My wife also enjoyed the pan mee. She said she ordered it because she was attracted by its aroma, and said that next time I should try it too.

My wife had read in my Facebook Group that the Hokkien Mee here is quite good, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived at about 8:17 am in the morning, and saw that the coffee shop was absolutely packed. Many customers have to share table. I had to navigate through the crowded tables to reach the Hokkien Mee stall, and placed an order for two RM4 bowls. That's the large bowl.

We finally found a vacated table. I do not enjoy having a meal in such a crowded coffee shop. I can't tell for sure how long it will take for our order to be delivered, and if the hawker remember our order at all. Whenever the server pass by, I would remind him that we had ordered two bowls.

Eventually we received our order at 8:28 am (the time is based on the data recorded on my photos) This is how it looks like:

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the portion size. To me, it is rather a small bowl for "large". It doesn't have much stuff in it too. Then I start to eat it.

Okay, the taste is not bad. It has the Hokkien Mee taste (which many other stalls do not). But within a few mouthfuls, I have finished my "large" bowl and was still hungry. So I looked around to find what else is there to eat, and saw the wan than mee, so I ordered a plate. It costs RM3.50, and this is how it looks like:

If I found the portion of Hokkien Mee was small, well the portion of Wan Than Mee was even smaller still. I shared it with my wife. To me the taste is okay, I quite like it, but it is a bit too salty. It would have tasted even better if it is a little less salty.

Either of the food I had this morning at Kedai Kopi Swee Kong is large enough to satisfy me. I am forced to order more than one item. So that brings the meal cost to at least RM7.50 for two plates of items. The drinks at Kedai Kopi Swee Kong isn't cheap. My wife ordered barley ice while I ordered just ais kosong. Her barley ice cost RM1.50, which to me is much on the high side.

You can take Rapid Penang bus 101, 103, 104, 304 to go to Pulau Tikus.

Location of Kedai Kopi Swee Kong

Kedai Kopi Swee Kong is located at the corner of Burmah Road and Solok Moulmein in Pulau Tikus. On the opposite side of Burmah Road is the Pulau Tikus Police Station. There is a bus stop along Burmah Road a short distance from the coffee shop. Walk from Burmah Road through Solok Moulmein to reach it. Get down from the bus either before or after the coffee shop, and walk towards it.
