Housing Estates of Penang

Housing Estates of Penang is a review of all the landed developments on Penang Island. The scarcity of land give landed properties in Penang some of the highest prices in the country. For the same reason, there are now very few new landed properties being developed in the metropolitan part of George Town, which stretches from Batu Ferringhi to Batu Maung. Those which are carry 7-digit price tags, and are often out of reach of those who are just starting out in the working life.
No new landed property in Penang can be considered "working class", except perhaps those in Balik Pulau, and even then, owners of such properties will have a big slice of their pay cheques apportioned away for the rest of their working lives.
Not all housing estates are affluent communities, of course. Many were built 30-40 years ago, when they were low-cost housing. Yet, due to location, some of the houses built for the working class now cost 20-30 times their original prices.
