Penang Hokkien Conversation: Introducing Someone

In the previous Penang Hokkien Conversation lesson, Ah Leng introduced his friend Krishnan to Ah Huat. One day Ah Huat was with his wife at Gurney Plaza when they met up with Krishnan. Krishnan was also with someone else. This is the conversation among them.

Ah Huat:: Hello Krishnan! Lu4 e33 jin33 wah4 boh2?
Hello Krishnan! Can you recognize me?

Krishnan:: E33¹! Tien3tiok1 e33 jin33 lah4! Lu4 tok33² si33 Ah3 Huat3 loh4!
Yes, of course. You are Ah Huat.

Ah Huat:: Krishnan, hor33 wah4 kai1siau3 lu4 wah1-eh3 ca3bor1 lang2, Siew1 Gaik1.
Krishnan, let me introduce to you my wife Siew Gaik.

Krishnan:: Siew1 Gaik1, ho4 boh2?
How are you, Siew Gaik?

Siew Gaik:: Wah1 ho4. Lu4 ni4?
I'm fine, and you?

Krishnan:: Wah1 tun1 ho4! Ah3 Hock3, Siew1 Gaik1, cit1-leh1 si33 wah1-eh3 ca3bor1 peng3iu4 Devi.
I'm also fine. Ah Hock, Siew Gaik, this is my girlfriend Devi.

Ah Huat & Siew Gaik:: Devi, ho4 boh2?
Devi, how are you?

Devi:: Ho4.
Fine.

Krishnan:: Ah3 Hock3, lu1lang2 lai3 cit1-peng2 co1 ha1mik1?
Ah Hock, why are you here?

Ah Hock:: Wah1lang2 si33 lai3 shopping. Lu4 ni4?
We come for shopping. And you?

Krishnan:: Wah1lang2 si33⁴ lai3 khnua1 hee3.
We come to watch a movie

Ah Hock:: Ah2, kha1theng2 wah1lang2 uh33 kho1leng2 khee1 khnua1 hee3 tun4.
I see. Afterwards we may go see a movie also.

Krishnan:: Uh33 kho1leng2 lan4 kokh1 tu4 tiok1 gok3!
(Then) there's a possibility we'll meet again afterwards!

Notes

1. "E33" literally means "can", but is translated here as "yes". You respond in such manner for questions using e33 or be33.
   
   
2. We often say tok33 si33 rather than simply si33 for emphasis.
   
   
3. The word for wife is bor4, but as the monosyllabic word may sound rather abrupt, we often say ca3bor1 lang2, literally "lady person", when refering to our wives in polite conversations. Similarly, husband is referred to as ta3por3 lang2 rather than ang1. In casual talk it is acceptable to use bor4 and ang1.
   
   
4. Although the "si33" is optional in this sentence, it is added for emphasis.
