Har Mee, Penang
Har Mee, or Prawn Noodle, is a spicy noodle dish that is similar to Penang-style Hokkien Mee. The broth base is made by boiling prawns, pork ribs, dried prawns. Some recipes call for the blending of prawn shells to make the broth.
Unlike Penang Hokkien Mee, which is often garnished with water convolvolus (kangkung), Har Mee is usually served by spare ribs or even tiger prawns. There is however no clear demarcation as to what constitutes Penang Hokkien Mee and what constitutes Har Mee.

What makes good Har Mee is of course the broth, or soup. Although spicy, good Har Mee soup has a sweetness that comes from the prawn shells. It is not a health food, to be sure, but it sure it tasty.
Presently, my favourite Har Mee stall is Ah Soon Kor Har Mee at Sin Kim Sun Coffee Centre, Macalister Road.
