About Khoo Cheow Teong Court

Khoo Cheow Teong Court, or Halaman Khoo Cheow Teong, is a tiny lane in the working class neighbourhood of George Town. It is located in the buffer zone of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site. It is access through the equally obscure Fish Lane.

Khoo Cheow Teong was born in Penang, made his fortune in Sumatra, and then eventually made his home back in Penang. He was made the Kapitan China of Asahan, Sumatra, by the Dutch administrators there in 1878. He is the father of Khoo Sian Ewe, of whom Khoo Sian Ewe Road was named.

Getting there

From the Weld Quay Bus Terminal, take the pedestrian bridge across Pengkalan Weld and then turn left. Walk along Pengkalan Weld until the junction of Gat Lebuh Melayu. Turn right into Gat Lebuh Melayu. Cross Lebuh Pantai into Malay Street (Lebuh Melayu), then turn left into Fish Lane (Lorong Ikan). Halaman Khoo Cheow Teong is on the right side of the road.
