Roskilde Cathedral, or Roskilde Domkirke, is a cathedral in the city of Roskilde in Zealand in eastern Denmark. It holds the distinction of being the first Gothic cathedral to be erected of brick, and its design paved the way for the brick Gothic style of churches across northern Europe.

Roskilde Cathedral was built between the 12th and 13th centuries. The architecture is a fusion of Gothic and Romaneque styles. Until the 20th century, it was the only cathedral on the island of Zealand. The building has two spires which dominate the skyline of Roskilde.

Due to its significance, Roskilde Cathedral is the burial site of Danish monarchs. Among them is Harald I, also called Bluetooth, the 10th century Viking king.

Roskilde Cathedral was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 19th session of the World Heritage Committee which met in Berlin, Germany, on from 4 to 9 December, 1995.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
