Lebuh Duke

Duke Street, or Lebuh Duke, is a small street at the Esplanade between City Hall and Dewan Sri Pinang. It was named the Duke of Edinburgh who visited Penang in 1869. He was put up at the most fabulous mansion in Penang at that time, the residence of local tycoon Koh Seang Tat. The house facing Light Street was subsequently renamed Edinburgh House. Edinburgh House has long been demolished. Its site is the compound in front of Dewan Sri Pinang.

Today part of Duke Street has been barricaded and forms a section of Dewan Sri Pinang. It is linked at both ends to Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah.
