The City Stadium of Penang, or Stadium Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, is the oldest stadium still in use in Malaysia. It was built by the British in 1932, and was used for official functions. Over the years, it became a popular venue for football matches.
The City Stadium has an athletic track and a capacity of 20,000 spectators. The City Stadium was recently renovated and given a facelift. Due to congestion within George Town, the stadium could not be further expanded from its present size. Bigger events have to be held at the Penang State Stadium in Batu Kawan while indoor events at the Penang International Sports Arena.
Getting there
The City Stadium is located at Lorong Kulit, right next to the Lorong Kulit Flea Market and the Rapid Penang Bus Depot. Rapid Penang Bus Nos. 11, 201, 202, 203 and U204 pass near the stadium. For details, refer to the Rapid Penang Bus Routes.
