The Christian Community Centre is a Roman Catholic facility in Sungai Ara, Penang. At time of writing (Oct 2009), final touches are being done to the complex, which costs in the region of RM6.8 million. The main component of the Christian Community Centre is the Chapel of Divine Mercy, the place of worship for the Catholic parishioners in the Sungai Ara area. The Christian Community Centre occupies a 3,848 square meter piece of land along Jalan Kenari. It was part of the Sungai Ara Holdings, which had a rubber estate there. The land was donated by the late H.R. Watts, a parishioner of the Holy Spirit Church, to the Roman Catholic Church, in 1989, for the purpose of setting of a Catholic community facility. The agreement was finalized by his daughter - Mr Watts had passed on - and the Catholic church in 1996. Many years would pass before a committee convened around 2003 on the project. Finally on 16 July 2005 the Sungai Ara Chapel / Christian Community Centre project was launched. By October 2009, the building is 95% completed with only finishing touches to be added. Getting thereTo be added soon. Google Map is rather slow when I am working on this page, so I will return to add the details on another day.![]() Christian Community Centre (21 September 2009) © Timothy Tye using this photo Click for list of Penang ChurchesChristian Community Centre Location Map
