The Second World War disrupted the running of the Government Trade School from 1942 to 1946, when it reopened as the Junior Trade School. In 1958, following Independence, the school was renamed Sekolah Menengah Pertukangan. Ten years later, it was renamed Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Batu Lanchang.

Between 1997 and 2009, the school was called Sekolah Menengah Teknik Batu Lanchang. It reverted to the name Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Batu Lanchang since then.
