Auditor General's Report on the Performance of the Penang State Government

Malaysian Currency
Malaysian Currency (17 April 2013)

Not being a member of any particular political party has its advantage. It offers you the voice to criticize any party at will.

Five years ago, the people of Penang offered an untested political party the opportunity to form the State Government. Five years later the report card shows a ship well captained. Hats off to the Captain!

The Auditor General of Malaysia, in its unbiased appraisal, has nothing but praise for the state's sound financial management. You may have heard comments on the Auditor General's report on Penang's performance in various journals and articles, but not seen the report itself. So here it is:

Auditor General's Report on the Penang State Government for the Year 2011

Now compare it with the Auditor General's Report for all other states in Malaysia.

To look for each state's report, select the PDF that says "Government Financial Statements and Financial Management Department/Agency". When reading the reports, pay particular attention to the section "Financial Analysis of the State Government". Words such as "revenue" should be accompanied with "increased" or similar. Words such as "outstanding loans" or "debts" should be accompanied by "decreased" or similar. Look for words such as "good/sound financial position." If this report is your bank statement, can you tell which state is well off and which is on I.O.U.? Rather than simply, blindly supporting or opposing the State Government, evaluate now how the State Government whom you elected five years ago has performed for you.
