Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye) is a country comprising the Anatolian peninsula portion in Asia and East Thrace in southeastern Europe. It covers 783,562 sq km (302,535 sq mi) and has a population of 74 million people (2011 estimate). The capital of Turkey is Ankara while the biggest city is Istanbul.

Turkey is bordered by Georgia to the northeast, Armenia, the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan and Iran to the east, Iraq and Syria to the southeast, Greece to the west, and Bulgaria to the northwest. To the south of Turkey is the Mediterranean Sea, with Cyprus to the south, to the west is the Aegean Sea and to the north is the Black Sea. The official language of Turkey is Turkish, while minority languages include Kurdish and Zazaki.

Turkey measures 1,600 km (1,000 mi) long and 800 km (500 mi) wide. The tallest mountain in Turkey is Mount Ararat, at 5,165 m (16,946 ft). Turkey experiences a temperate Mediterranean climate with warm, wet summers and cold, wet winters. The coastal areas of Turkey expereinces a temperate Oceania climate.
