Andong is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, on the central eastern part of South Korea. Founded around 1 BC by the Jinhan people, Andong is today considered one of the most culturally rich cities in South Korea. It covers 1,519 sq km (586.5 sq mi) and has a population of 184,000 (2011 estimate).

The tourist interest in Andong stems from the visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1999. The city has a folk village that showcases the traditional folk culture and art of Korea, with the Andong Folk Festival held every year.

At Andong is the Hahoe Folk Village, widely regarded as the most notable folk village in South Korea. Together with Yangdong Folk Village, it was listed as a World Heritage Site since 2010.

In addition to the culture, Andong is also noted for its local specialties and delicacies. It has a local variety of bibimbap dish known as heotjesabap, which is served with ganjang soy sauce instead of gochujang hot pepper paste. Another local dish is the Andong jjimdak, which is a steamed or braised dish of chicken and vegetables marinated in ganjang soy sauce.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
