Singapore is one of the most expensive places in the world to own a car. The same model of car costs several times more in Singapore compared to the United States. For example, for the price you would pay to buy a Toyota Camry in Singapore, you can buy four Camrys in the United States. The price of cars is kept deliberately high to minimize congestion.

It is just not worth the while to buy a car if you are going to stay in Singapore for a short period, of say less than five years. If you are an expatriate coming to work in Singapore, you will find that many expatriates make do with either leasing or taking the taxi. Singapore's excellent public transport makes owning a car a true luxury.

New or Used?

If you want to be free of hassles (and can afford that option), buy a new car. A new car in Singapore is no value for money. It is truly a status symbol. As soon as you drive it out of the auto showroom, 35% of its price has evaporated into thin air.

The only thing you need to buy a new car (apart from copious amount of money), is a valid residence permit. With that in hand, you can begin your auto shopping: here's a list of New Car Dealers in Singapore.

At this point, you may wonder about stuff like Certificate of Entitlement (COE), insurance, financing and other related hassles related to buying a car. Fear not. Your dealer will usually have a prepared package that takes care of all that on your behalf, in turning of your signing on the dotted line.

If you want to do some window shopping for cars, most of the auto showrooms are found along Alexandra Road and Leng Kee Road. Many of these showrooms are next to one another screaming for you to come in and check out their displays.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
