MRT Kajang Line (6 August, 2017)


MRT Kajang Line  Green Line  is the first of the three Kuala Lumpur MRT Lines to be constructed. Previously known as the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, it was launched by the Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak on 8 July, 2011. The first of three lines to be implemented, the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line will be 51 km in length, of which 9.5 km will be underground. Stations on the MRT Kajang Line are given station codes with the letters KG.

According to MRT Corp¹, there will be 31 stations, of which 9 will be underground. Three more stations are being planned, and one is dropped. As of time of writing (April 2015), the line and stations are all under construction, so more details and updates will be carried out on this page.

Phase One of the MRT Kajang Line, covering the first 12 elevated stations, from Sungai Buloh MRT Station to Semantan MRT Station became operational on 16 December, 2016. Phase Two, covering the remaining 19 stations of the line, became operational on 17 July, 2017, and was officiated by prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The date was deliberately choosing as 17.7.17 is a memorable number.

Ticketing

Users of the MRT can either pay for their rides with Single Journey Tokens or with Touch 'n Go Cards, which are available for purchase at all the MRT SBK Customer Service Offices. A minimum RM3 value requirment is applicable on all the Touch 'n Go cards, but users enjoy a discount on distant journeys.

Updates on the MRT Kajang Line

18 July, 2017: The prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak officiated the opening of the MRT Kajang Line, said to be the newest and most modern in the world. All 31 stations have become operational.

16 December, 2016: Phase One of the MRT Kajang Line became operational between the Sungai Buloh and Semantan MRT Stations. During the trial run, the public will get to use the service for free. Fares will only be implemented from 17 January, 2017. Phase One of the line was completed at a cost of RM21billion, which is RM2 billion below the projected cost. Phase Two is expected to go into operations in July 2017.


The initial line of the Kuala Lumpur MRT is expected to cost RM36 billion. The construction is expected to start in July 2011, however the figure has since been revised to RM36 billion (as of April 2015). When completed, the first line of the MRT is expected to serve 1.2 million commuters in the vicinity of the line. Presently the first MRT line in Kuala Lumpur is expected to go into operations in 2017.
