Wisma Huazong, Seri Kembangan (11 July, 2016)


Wisma Huazong (GPS: 3.00472, 101.72613) is the headquarters of the Federation of Chinese Associations in Malaysia. It is located in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. The RM80 million building includes a 12-storey high-rise block. It was officially opened by the prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in January, 2016. The podium has a colonaded façade that resembles the Great Hall of the People at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Wisma Huazong was built on a piece of land costing RM15 million. Among the local Chinese businessmen who contributed to the building fund included Tan Sri Yeoh Teong Lay of YTL Group, who gave as much as RM6.5mil donation. He is followed by Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah of Sunway Group and Tan Sri Koo Yuen Kim of Perfect Group who each gave RM5 million. Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng of IOI Group and Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai of Top Glove Corporation each contributed RM2.5 million while the MCA, Huazong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah and Tan Sri Kong Hon Kong of Nirvana Asia each donated RM2 million. Rounding up the total are another 31 Malaysian Chinese tycoons who each donated RM1 million.

The Star reports on the opening of the Malaysian Chinese Museum at Wisma Huazong. The museum offers an insight into the culture, tradition and heritage of the Chinese over the centuries. The museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays and on public holidays, from 9:30am to 5:00pm. Entrance fee is RM20 (adults), RM10 (senior citizens) and RM5 (children and students). Phone: 010-393 8639.
