Pulau Tengah is an uninhabited island at the mouth of the Klang River delta in Selangor. It is covered in mangrove swamp. The island in May 2009 drew the attention of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals when it was reported that 300 stray dogs were abandoned on the island. Faced with starvation, the dogs resorted to cannibalizing the carcass of the other strays that have died.

The dogs were left there by the villagers of Pulau Ketam, the neighbouring island to the north of Pulau Tengah. According to the villagers, they did not mean to be cruel to the dogs. They expected that the dogs would be able to fend for themselves on the uninhabited island. The villagers wanted to get rid of the stray dogs as they pose a threat to the children as well as a hygiene issue. The SPCA are advising the Pulau Ketam residence on alternative measures to control the stray population at Pulau Ketam, which is reaching 2000. Measures proposed include sterilisation and relocation.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
