Masjid Diraja Sultan Alaeddin, Jugra (6 July, 2016)


Masjid Diraja Sultan Alaeddin (GPS: 2.86335, 101.4398) is a beautiful mosque in the old royal town of Jugra, in Kuala Langat District, Selangor. It is located on Jalan Istana. It was named after Sultan Alaeddin (1863-1938) who had it built. According to the Jemaah Agama Islam Selangor, the mosque was opened on 18 June, 1924, by His Royal Highness Sultan Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa. Wikipedia however states (without citation) that the mosque was constructed between 1903 and 1905, and opened in 1906 by Sultan Alaeddin.

At the time of my visit (July 2016), Masjid Diraja Sultan Alaeddin was undergoing restoration. It will many more months before the mosque is reopened to the public. The prayer hall has a double-tier hip roof topped with a roof lantern. There is a three-tier minaret which ends with a cup-shaped dome. The design of the minaret is reminiscent to that of the Kapitan Keling Mosque in Penang.
