Cheras (GPS: 3.06221, 101.76377) is a major township that straddles the border of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The name Cheras is believed to have been derived from the Tamil name for the ancient Chera Dynasty, but this remains unverified. This article is about the Cheras on the Selangor side (for the one in Kuala Lumpur, go to Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.)

The Cheras in Selangor is part of Hulu Langat District and is administered by the Kajang Municipal Council. Covering an area of 59 sq km, Cheras has a population of about 200,000 people, making it the most populous subdistrict in the country. The area is contiguous with Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, to the immediate north, Balakong to the west, and Kajang to the south. Sungai Langat is one of the main rivers flowing through Cheras.
