Anglican Christian Cemetery, Batu Gajah

Batu Gajah Anglican Christian CemeteryBatu Gajah Anglican Christian Cemetery (18 June, 2011)

Anglican Christian Cemetery (GPS: 4.47873, 101.03211) is a historic cemetery in Batu Gajah. Fondly called "God's Little Acre", the cemetery is located at the end of Jalan Hospital in the Changkat neighbourhood of Batu Pahat.

The Anglican Christian Cemetery is split into two parts. The older section has some of the historic tombstones. This section no longer accepts new burials. The new section, located near the Holy Trinity Church, continues to function as a burial ground for the Anglican Christians in Batu Gajah.

The older section of the Anglican Christian Cemetery is the one of interest to most visitors, due to its wealth of history. Many of the people buried here are connected to the history, not only of Batu Gajah, but also of Malaya. Often called the Batu Gajah War Cemetery, it has many tombstones for the soldiers who died in the Second World War.

Among the graves at the Anglican Christian Cemetery are those of three British plantation managers who were killed by terrorists in Sungai Siput on 16 June, 1948. They were E.A. Walker, J.M Allisan and I.D. Christian. Their murders ignited the Declaration of Emergency in Malaya.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
