Jalan Bayan Lepas, Penang (6 January, 2017)
Jalan Bayan Lepas is the main road through Bayan Lepas town. It is part of Federal Route 6 that goes through the northern, western and southern parts of Penang Island. It connects with Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, at the junction of Jalan Garuda, in the east and Jalan Teluk Kumbar, at the intersection with Jalan Permatang Damar Laut and Jalan Kampung Bukit, in the west. Jalan Bayan Lepas used to be a narrow road though the village, with double storey shophouses on both sides.
With increased traffic flow from Teluk Kumbar and Balik Pulau, a 207-million road widening project was carried out since 2015 until end of 2017 to widen the road and build a flyover connecting Jalan Bayan Lepas to Jalan Teluk Kumbar. It required the demolition of the shophouses on one side of the road and the reconstruction of the village police station.
