National Science Centre, Kuala Lumpur (6 June, 2004)
The National Science Centre, or Pusat Sains Negara (PSN), is located on 8 hectares of landscaped grounds at Bukit Kiara, on the northwestern part of Kuala Lumpur. The National Science Centre was established in 1996 to enhance our understanding and interest in science and technology. Over the space of nine galleries are scientific exhibitions to educate through entertainment.
The design of the National Science Centre is a fusion of modern architecture with Islamic design. Within the National Science Centre is theme park where visitors can enjoy the Space Science Show and Sky Movie on a 20m diameter dome screen. The screen is designed in the shape of a cone.
This structure is housed within the huge geodesic dome. An enjoyable exhibit at the National Science Centre is the walk-through overhead tropical freshwater aquarium. This is followed by the Environmental Odyssey where visitors are educated on the threats faced by the tropical environment.
Other exhibits at the National Science Centre includes Pathway to Discovery, Future World and Thinking Machine. For the younger visitors, there is also a special section at the National Science Centre called the Children's Exploration Centre. Also available is a 14-inch telescope and viewing gallery with binoculars.
