KL Tower (GPS: 3.1528, 101.70375), is one of the world's tallest telecommunications tower. The KL Tower is 421 meters (1379 feet) tall, and sits on top of Bukit Nanas in Kuala Lumpur. In terms of height, KL Tower is said to be in fourth placing after the CN Tower of Toronto, Canada (553m), Ostanikino Tower in Russia (540m) and Shanghai Tower in China (468m). KL Tower was built to improve on the quality of telecommunication and broadcasting transmission - not to mention as another landmark for the city.

KL Tower offers splended views of the city. It is surrounded by the Bukit Nanas Forest Recreational Park which covers 11 hectares of forested land in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, one of the oldest gazetted forest reserve in Malaysia. When KL Tower was constructed, much care was taken to ensure that the impact on the environment was minimal. Within the vicinity of KL Tower is a 100-year-old jelutong tree (Dyera costulata). To protect it, a retaining wall was constructed at a cost of RM430,000.

KL Tower was completed in May 1996 and opened to the public on 23 July 1996. The official opening was on 1 October 1996 by the then prime minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The tower borrowed motifs from traditional Islamic design. Within the tower is the Observation Deck, located 276 meters above ground. A multi-lingual audio guide of the Kuala Lumpur skyline is available. Those who relish dining in the clouds will delight at the Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant. Private functions can also be arranged at the Mega View Banquet Deck.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
