KL Sentral Railway Station (GPS: 3.13421, 101.68638) is the rail transportation hub of Malaysia. It is located in Brickfields, the neighbourhood of Kuala Lumpur that was once the location of the Malayan Railway train depot. When it opened on 16 April, 2001, KL Sentral took over the role of the old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. It is the largest train station in Southeast Asia.

  5. RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line light rail transit service.
  6. KL Monorail station across Jalan Tun Sambanthan, some 410 meter away.

  8. KLIA Transit High-speed commuter rail link with KLIA.

Public transport at KL Sentral

You can catch a taxi from KL Sentral to anywhere in Kuala Lumpur. In addition, you can take the KTM Komuter and KL Monorail trains. The cheapest mode of public transport is the free GoKL City Bus. This free bus service takes you to various parts of the city. If the immediate route does not take you to the place you want to go, there are a number of interchange stops where you can tranfer to another route. Check out the link provided for the details.

Development at KL Sentral



KL Sentral Railway Station was built on the site of the former Keretapi Tanah Melayu marshalling yard in Brickfields. The area around the new central station is being developed into Kuala Lumpur's new central business district with the eponymous name of Kuala Lumpur Sentral. The development is undertaken by a consortium led by Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB). The masterplan for KL Sentral was designed by the architectural firm of renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa (who also designed KLIA). The whole project, began in 1994, is expected to be fully completed only in 2015. They comprise 14 lots from Lot A to Lot N. In addition to the main train terminal, KL Sentral will also include the development of hotels, office blocks, condominiums and shopping malls. As of time of writing (June 2010), the following are some of the buildings that are being planned or have been completed within the KL Sentral development:

  1. Lot A: Menara CIMB, completed in 2015.
  2. Lot B: Q Sentral, developed by MRCB and Quill Group, completed in 2015.
  3. Lot C: St Regis Hotel and Residence, now under construction with expected completion in 2014.
  4. Lot D: Residential lot to be developed by MRCB with Capitaland and the Quill Group. The plan is to construct a 60-storey residential skyscraper here.
  5. Lot E: Platinum Sentral, an office complex constructed by MRCB.
  6. Lot F: Undeveloped lot designated for office development.
  7. Lot G: Nu Sentral Mall, a hotel-commercial-office mixed development by Aseana Investment and MRCB. Construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2012. It include Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral and NU Towers.
  8. Lot H: KL Sentral Station, the main transportation hub of the nation completed in 2000.
  9. Lot I: Hilton Kuala Lumpur and Le Méridien Hotel, both completed in 2004.
  10. Lot J: Sooka Sentral and four 35-storey office towers completed in 2008. UEM Headquarters and MIDA are located here. The four office towers are Axiata Tower, Menara SSM, MIDA Sentral and Mercu UEM.
  11. Lot K: Suasana Sentral residential block completed in 2002.
  12. Lot L: Suasana Sentral Loft residential block completed in 2008. Ascott Sentral Kuala Lumpur and Menara Shell completed in 2013.
  13. Lot M: Plaza Sentral office block with Phase 1 completed in 2001 and Phase 2 in 2007.
  14. Lot N: 1 Sentral, 30-storey office block completed in 2007.

10 July, 2015 The Electric Train Service was launched from KL Sentral to Padang Besar in time for Hari Raya. The journey takes 4 hours and costs RM81. The ETS train leaves KL Sentral at 9:30 am in the morning, and arrives at Padang Besar at 3:00 pm. It then leaves Padang Besar at 4:00 pm and arrives back in Kuala Lumpur at 9:15 pm.
