Jalan Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur (15 June, 2017)


Jalan Dang Wangi is a major road in Kuala Lumpur. It runs east-west intersecting beginning at Jalan Raja Laut in the west, and ending at Jalan Ampang in the east. Along the way, it intersects with Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Munshi Abdullah and Jalan Raja Abdullah. West of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Dang Wangi is a one-way street heading westward while east of Jalan Munshi Abdullah it is one way heading east.

Jalan Dang Wangi was originally known as Campbell Road. The original name was given in honour of the British advisor to Johor, Douglas Graham Campbell. He is a different person from the one after whom Campbell Street in Penang was named, and also different from the one honoured with Campbell Lane in Singapore.

On 24 April, 1980, it was renamed after a historical or legendary woman who features in the Sejarah Melayu as well as Hikayat Hang Tuah. Dang Wangi, also called Dang Baru and Dang Inangsih, is the mother of Hang Jebat's son, Laksamana Hang Nadim¹ She is said to have been present during the duel between Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat.

How to reach Jalan Dang Wangi

You can take the RapidKL Ampang Line to the Bandaraya LRT Station and walk a short distance north along Jalan Raja Laut to reach the west end of Jalan Dang Wangi. Alternatively, you can take the RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line to the Dang Wangi LRT Station to reach the east end of Jalan Dang Wangi.
